Dear Subtitle Translator Team!

We have a website named Podnapisi.NET (Sub-titles.net), and we hold more than 90000 subtitles in various world languages. Until this May, the website was only made for Slovenian users, but after that, we are trying to make the site internatioal. At the moment international part didn't attract many users (few % of all users), but we expect that number to rise in the following months.
On our page we have made several inovations, for which we need software, that can use those features. The newest feature is On-line translation, where more than one person can translate subtitles at the same time. That way subtitles can be translated much faster. Before the subtitles are finished they are rechecked for errors.
The main idea is to make translation easier. I would like to propose you, if it's possible to cooperate on this project with you. If possible, you could integrate a new feature “on-line translation” into your great program. In software there would be additional feature, in which you would enter username and password, and after that people could automatically get subtitles to translate. When original subtitles would be transferred into the software, they could start with translation. The same way, they could upload the data to server (fully translated or just partly translated – saved) and create online translation.
There are many different ways of on-line translation. You can translate alone, or make a team with several friends. The third possibility is, that the translation is opened to all people and they can all participate – but only founder can modify translated parts (protection from assholes that would want to ruin the subtitle).
Beside this project, we are going to integrate function into software players, that will be able to connect to the servers database and automatically download subtitles (many different languages) for the movie. Then you will only choose the subtitle language you need and watch the movie! Each release would have an ID that would match the subtitles for that movie. That way people can get to their subtitles without searching the whole internet for subtitles that match their release.

If you are interested in any kind of cooperation, please let me know!

Thank you for your time,

Jure Kalisnik

Hmmm... integrating online translation into ST would require a lot of coding for which I don't have time right now.
The idea sounds interesting, though, keep it comin'.

Hello,
i have a portuguese site of subtitles ( www.legendas-ed2k.com ), i`ve been searching all the web for that "module" (online translator) but its very dificult to find or impossible.
That online translator is great to the site and im asking you if you can send it to me to try to install on my site, or if you know where i can find him to download i apreciate you :smile.gif:
Please reply to this post

Sorry my english unsure.gif

Thanks
Tarzan
That subtitle translator is part of the website. It isn't yet completed, because there's almost no time, and there's noone really interested in it. Translation is much harder over internet, because you don't have the ability to view the movie at the same time (unless you watch it with external player). That's why not many people decide to ranslate via on-line translator. If that function could be integrated into software like Subtitle Translator, the thing would be great! More than one people could translate at the same time, they could watch and listen to the movie with help of ST, and the most important thing, translated text would be transfered to internet server. I've lost few almost completed translations because of HDD failure, that way translation is saved remotely, and is harder to fail (RAID 10 stripping+mirroring ).

Translator is in the wait mode at the moment. We are pushing all our forces into translating the site into other world languages and we are working on third version of the website. First it was built on IBF portal, now it's entirely rewritten by us (3 people) and we are working on total rewrite again, this time 100% modular with easily upgradeable modules and much faster due to several optimisations we will include. Database is killing our server at the moment, when there's more than 270 people on-line and looking for subtitles.
The translator can not be attached to any other website, it was built inside our webpage, and it's not written modular enough to just take it out. Perhaps when the translator gets completed and integrated into Podnapisi.NET v3.

If you're interested in translating the website into Portugese language, and become moderator of Portugese section of the forum - when translated, you are more than welcome.

Offer still stands, if Subtitle Translator can offer that function, it would be great if we can make it work together. Perhaps we can write the translator for PHPBB and other free scripts, and in the translator, you could select the server you are translating on...

Anyways, the idea isn't dead, other things got higher priority, because of lack of interesents, but we will try again.

BTW:
I've seen your page in the past, looks nice, I'm sorry I don't speak Spanish or Portugese language. And oh, your english isn't bad, as long as we all understand each other, there's no problem. English is not my first language too, so I'm not really sure how good my english is.

Best regards,
Jure
